About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Welcome to my blog!

So, a new year and another new blog (I'm betting that I'm not the only fool to start a blog today). I guess you'll want me to tell you a bit about myself? OK, here you go.

I'm one of those mythical beasts, the female wargamer. Just take some deep breaths - feeling OK now? Yes, I'm a female wargamer. I know it's unusual, but it's true.

I live and work in London and started wargaming again a few months ago after a very long break. I first did wargaming as a teenager but stopped when I found I didn't have any spare time available and the friends I had been wargaming had all drifted away from the hobby. What spurred me to start again after so long? Well, I was off work ill for several months and one day went to look something up on the interweb. One of the pages I found had a link to a page about spaceship wargaming, so I took a look-see and somehow the spark took and reawakened my old interest. I gave it a few days, did some more research and then realised that, yes, I really did want to get back into the hobby after xx years (you didn't expect a lady to give clues to her true age did you? ).

And here I am, starting a blog about wargaming. I guess you want to know what my gaming interests are? Science fiction is obviously one of them, both spaceship battles and ground combat. I'm also interested in ancients and the American Civil War. There are other periods that interest me, but I want to limit my range for now.

Like wargamers everywhere, I have quite a large lead (and resin) pile awaiting the paintbrush - more in my next post!

The reasons I've started a blog are:

To share my hobby - wargaming - with the world at large (or at least those who read it)
To keep track of my gaming
To keep track of my miniatures painting, and hopefully improvement in my painting skills
To guilt-trip myself into getting on with painting all those miniatures in my lead pile!

The games I play ....

Ancients: FoG A&M

ACW: have the Polemos rules, will try them out at some point

Starships: Full Thrust and Full Thrust Light

SciFi Ground Combat: Tomorrow's War; Stargrunt 2; Dirtside 2; Future War Commander, Gruntz, FUBAR

At the club I go to, Central London Wargames Club, I also play Ironclads and WWI Aviation using rules written by club members.

  1. Welcome back to the hobby!

If you haven't stumbled across it yet (it likes to lay in the most interfering places) my blog might be of interest as we seem to share some interests as gaming genres go.
