A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Paint Table Saturday 03 July

 


Well, that's what is on the workbench right now - half the tree plantation tiles and the 40mm insert pieces. Here is the other half of the tiles:


I realised when I was adding the scrub patches to the "tracked" tiles that I'd made a little bit of a boo-boo. It turns out that the paint/PVA "fix" I'd used on the herbs hadn't fully dried when I added the turf, so a lot of the herbs got covered with green flock. Not a big issue as I can add some more herbs later on. Right now the tiles are being left alone until the scrub and turf are fully dry. Tomorrow I will seal everything with some scenic cement (before adding the extra herbs) and when that has had a few hours to dry, I will hit them with a spray coat of matte varnish.

As I mentioned yesterday, I have started work on the 40mm insert pieces:


Tomorrow I'll airbrush on some brown wash and also add some scenic cement to fix and seal the scrub mix.

Last night I glued the tops onto some tree bases from Charlie Foxtrot Models. I then beveled the edges with a knife and sanded the cut down:

This evening I have been preparing bases for the kunai grass and bamboo thickets. That has mostly involved cutting 5mm blue foam to fit the bases and gluing it onto the MDF. I haven't bothered to take pictures of those.

So far, everything looks set for me to have the tree plantation tiles finished on Monday. After that, I think I'll start on the kunai grass bases, then the bamboo. Once they are done and dusted it will be time for a lot of tree tarting-up.

    Great work Tamsin, shame about covering the herbs, but as you say can be reapplied. Really like the 40 mm bases, great looking vegetation on them

    I just bet the mistake makes those plants even better than their brothers, such is the way of scenics!

    Great work Tamsin & looking at that overhead shot of the bases, got me thinking that without vegetation, they could easily proxy as shell craters from a heavy barrage!

      Thanks! A little too regular for shell craters, but those washers would certainly make a good base for making some. :)
