A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

SYW Russian Dragoons and Horse Grenadiers

I gave in and drybrushed the bases last night, then flocked them first thing this morning. As I know you've been waiting patiently to see the finished units and I'm going to be away until Sunday evening, I thought I'd schedule this post for Saturday morning.

Anyway, here you go - piccies!

Group Shot:

Narvskiy Horse Grenadiers:

Riazanskiy Horse Grenadiers:

Arkhangelogorodskiy Dragoons:

Tobolskiy Dragoons:

The Colours:

All figures are 15mm from Essex, based on 30x30mm for King of the Battlefield.

I now have all three regiments of dragoons that fought in the Seven Years War, and just two more horse grenadier regiments to do - Kargopolskiy and Rizhskiy. Once the hussars currently on the table are done, I'll have two more regiments of those left to paint - Novoserbskiy and Slavianoserbskiy. Or four if I do 1st and 2nd regiments of both of those. Of course, I could always add the two hussar regiments that didn't fight in the SYW, but that might be overkill.

And then there is one more regiment of cuirassiers - Prinz Fedorovich - and another 21 infantry regiments...

  1. Lovely work there Tamsin! --Don't forget you can paint up more dragoons on foot (those who couldn't get horses!)

  2. These look really awesome arrayed for battle - I especially like the variety of realistic-looking tones that you've achieved on the horses.

  10. @ Ski - thanks! :)

@ Herkybird - you are a bad, bad man for making that suggestion! ;)

@ Pawn Cocktail - cheers! The way I do the horses is to use thinned, but not wash-thin, colours over a white primer followed by an appropriate shade of wash/glaze. It helps to know a little about real horse colours to help select the base paints to use :)

    @ Clint - thanks! I'm pleased with how they've turned out :)

    @ Michael A - cheers m'Lord! :)

    @ Pete - thanks! :)

@ Ray - cheers! Glad you like the flags :)

    @ Sidney - thanks! Not a whole army, just a brigade ;)

    @ Martin - cheers! :)

@ Dannoc - thanks! It's amazing how clean the brushwork looks now, compared to how messy they were at the start :)

  14. @ Gilles - merci! The flags are very impressionistic but freehand at this cale - what more can you expect? :)

@ cmnash - thanks! Perhaps I should have put that they were 15mm at the top, but it's great if people think they are 28s until the big reveal at the end :)
