About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Finished: 28mm WW2 Aussies for Kokoda #1

I managed to get the basing finished and the figures matte varnished this morning, then tufted the bases this afternoon.

As I have previously mentioned, these will primarily be for the Aussie regular (AIF) troops in the early stages of the Kokoda Track campaign, most likely the 2/14th Battalion of 21 Brigade (I think the other two battalions - 2/16th and 2/27th - may have had time to try dying their uniforms green before heading up the track). The figures are all Warlord games from their 8th Army range.

Senior Leaders

I should probably go back and add a dab of gloss to the surface of his tea.

Medic

Signals

MMG Team

3" Mortar Team

Well, that's some useful command and support options for them, and a nice way to start off this force.

  1. Simply stunning work, Tamsin. You truly seem to be at the top of your game currently, and are producing some wonderfully painted minis. Lovely work and what a corking army you must have assembled by now :-)

  3. Very impressive indeed. Very High quality work...I'm envious. Don't worry about the gloss on the char, even the real thing is more of a sludge than a liquid.

  4. Lovely work Miss P! I love the officer with his pipe and tea, and agree that the “tea” shouldn’t be too shiny! Lovely monkey too, are there actually monkeys in New Guinea?
    Cheers

  8. Terrific, these are really very nice indeed. The radio operator with the monkey is perfect. He'd make a good JOP.

  11. Smashingly well done! The uniforms actually were originally khaki and it took several months of standing around as targets before it sunk in that the KNIL in Indonesia had it right - green uniforms were the way to go. They also would have worn their helmets - useful to wear in the desert - not so much in the jungle where more than one Aussie was shot at when his helmet struck a branch giving off a loud noise that attracted fire. All in all quite nice!

  12. I cannot commend your brushwork highly enough, these are amazing!
I would be frightened to use them in a game for fear of getting them scratched or stained!!!!

  14. @ Blax - thank you! With these Aussies, it was a case of idiotically doing more levels of highlighting/shading than absolutely required for the first batch and then having to stick with it for the rest. That being said, the resulting figures have been awesome :)

@ L'Empereur - cheers! That monkey is just such a cute little touch :)

@ Service Ration - thanks! Thinking back to my time in the TA, you're right about army tea! ;)

    @ Glasow Warhog - cheers! :)

@ Peter - thanks Mr D! That officer just needs some slippers. As for the monkey, I don't know if there are any in New Guinea, but he could have picked it up in North Africa, or India on the way back :)

    @ Fran - cheers, mate! :)

    @ Dannoc - thanks! :)

@ Curt - cheers! The signalman vignette is rather nice :)

    @ Simon J - thanks! :)

    @ Carole - cheers! JOP? Now, there's a thought :)

@ Benito - thank you! I think I can unanimously declare that everybody loves that monkey! :)

@ Millsy - and another vote for the monkey! :)
I've already read that book, and Brune's earlier one "Those Ragged Bloody Heroes" - both very good reads about the campaigns.

    @ Jerry - cheers! :)

@ Herkybird - thanks! They have all had a good brush-on coat of Klear before being matte varnished, so the paintjobs should be decently protected :)

    @ Legatus - thank you! :)
