A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Finished: 28mm British Paras Batch 2 - Supports

I got the varnishing done on these this morning, so I can declare the second batch of British paras complete (apart from the basing, which will be done when the third batch are finished). This batch contains various support weapons and some Jump Off Point markers.

Jump Off Points

"That was the bleedin' General"

Snipers

PIAT Teams

Major Robert Cain of the 2nd South Staffs

Vickers MMGs

I'm going to be rebasing these on 50mm round bases so that the loader is actually feeding the gun!

3" Mortar

I'm also going to rebase the mortar and the chap with the mortar bomb onto a single base.

6-Pounder Anti Tank Gun

75mm Pack Howitzer

I have a sneaking suspicion that the 6-pounder is slightly oversized and the 75mm pack howitzer is slightly undersized.

The figures here are mostly Artizan, with some Crusader (the General) and Foundry (one sniper, one PIAT gunner, one PIAT loader). Two of the Artizan snipers are from a NW Europe Commandos pack.

  1. Fantastic work on the Paras Tamsin, they look excellent

  2. They look good, I like the fact that the denison smocks are slightly different base colours. But again, the curse of the inadequate numbers of crew for the support weapons. I have considered getting a couple of sprues of the Warlord plastic paras to kitbash some additional crew for mine.

  3. The guns are indeed over/undersized as you guessed. Fabulous work as always though Tamsin!

  4. Such good work Tamsin, I love the variety that you have achieved with the unit.

  5. Rather spiffing!
Major Robert Cain of the 2nd South Staffs. My bro (whose reg got almagamated into the Mercians) has a pic of him in his house

  6. Lovely work, I agree with you about rebasing the support weapons into a group stand, it looks like they are crewing the weapon then rather than just standing around it.

  7. @ Dave Stone - thanks! :)

@ Doug - cheers! I did the two different base colours as that was historically accurate - the early version was yellowish, the later version was greenish.
The lacking crew numbers is part of the reason why I bought the 6-pounder and the 75mm with crews and based the figures individually; as I'm unlikely to ever use both guns in the same game, I can use the crew from one to make up the numbers for the other :)

@ Herkybird - thanks! As it's unlikely ever to appear on the table, the 75mm being undersized shouldn't be a major problem :)

@ Michael A - cheers! Well, variety is the spice of life :)

@ Paul's Bods - thanks! Major cain was certainly a bit of a character :)

    @ Moiterei - cheers! :)

@ Paul SS - thanks! It makes sense for the MG gunner and loader to be on the same base; for the 3" mortar it will just be the guy dropping the bomb down the tube - the two spares can make up the numbers for AT guns :)
