About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Salute 2016 and Giveaway Reminder

"Wargamers, Sah, farsands of 'em!"

Yes, just one day to go until several thousand wargamers descend on the plucky defenders of Excel Drift for the annual pilgrimage to Salute.

At 1pm there will be the (now) traditional Bloggers' Meet-Up in the middle of the hall - see the pic below; meeting point is the red circle.

I do have a list. I've checked it once and I've checked it twice. I also know that I've been naughty and nice. So, I should be returning home laden down with plenty of goodies. Some of them aren't for me - I've agreed to pick up some things for other people.

I also want to remind people about my 4th Blogiversary & 500K Hits giveaway. If you haven't already entered, there's still time as I won't be doing the draws until Monday evening (UK time).

I also want to note that some people who entered before my clarification may have been confused by the rule where I said "only one entry per person" and only selected one option. What I had meant by that is that people wouldn't get bonus entries for promoting the giveaway, and each name would only appear once for each prize they wanted to be entered for (if they wanted to be entered for more than one). Once someone has won a prize, their name will be removed from the lists for subsequent prizes.

So, if you left a comment before the clarification I posted and actually wanted to be considered for more than one prize, but only put down one, please feel free to update your entry with the other prizes you want to be in the draw for by replying to your original comment.

Builders Update

They're almost finished. Probably tomorrow (errmm, yeah, probably Monday if you include all the cleaning up after themselves - like removing splats of plaster from the glass in various windows, clearing the ceiling rubble which got trapped between the radiator and wall in my lounge, cleaning the new carpet in my lounge where black dust from the ceiling rubble dropped onto it when the radiator got knocked, cleaning paint/filler/plaster off furniture, cleaning up all the dust in the communal stairs...).

Now, you may be thinking that surely they should have been done by now. Well, the few little extra bits I was getting done apart from the ceiling replacement sort of turned into getting most of the flat redone.

That means that next week will probably be spent getting my painting room back in order, as well as my lounge, kitchen and bathroom.

It's My Infamous(ly Late) 4th Blogiversary & (Not Late) 500K Hits Giveaway

Righty-ho! Let's do this - lots of prizes up for grabs.

How This Works:

1. Leave a comment below stating which prize (or prizes) you want to be in the draw for
2. Only one entry per person Edit to clarify - that is "Only one entry per person per prize"
3. Only one prize per person
4. Spambots and webcrawlers are not eligible for participation
5. The prize draw results will be announced here on Monday 18 April. Winners should contact me by email (link at the top of the left hand sidebar).

So, what are the prizes:

1) 15mm New Anglian Confederation Starter Force

2) 15mm UNSC Starter Force

3) 15mm Peter Pig Pirates

4) 15mm Black Hat and Essex WSS Infantry

5) One £30 voucher for Diplomatist Books

6) Two (yes, two) 40 Euro vouchers for Barrage Miniatures

These two vouchers have been very generously donated by Alf - he simply won't let me pay for them! They've got some great stuff there - lots of boats, terrain and other things you never thought you'd need until you saw them. Alf's a great guy to deal with.

So, don't forget to comment saying which draws you want to be in. Good luck!

OMG!

"She's posting on a Wednesday!"

Indeed I am. Not because I've actually done some painting or model making since Sunday - I'm still knackered in the evenings when I get home from work for some reason. The only hobby related work I have done since my last post is to (finally) do a big brush-cleaning session.

I actually have two things to post about today.

Firstly, it's well over a week since I last posted about purchases of Hotwheels and I know you must all be thinking that I am ill/well (depending on your viewpoint). So, here's a pic or two of some cars I bought this evening while I was doing a shop at Tesco:

McLaren P1
In the background, you can see what's next on my workbench - another two regiments of 6mm Union infantry.

Secondly, when I posted on Sunday I spotted that the previous Sunday's post was my 750th. I somehow have missed doing a celebratory prize draw for my 3rd Blogday which means it is over a year since I last did one.

I know what the prize is going to be, but I don't want to do the prize draw in the way I have previously (you know - leave a comment, pimp my blog for bonus entries, blah-blah-di-blah). This time I'm not going to tell you how to enter or how I will determine the lucky winner. I'm also not going to tell you what the prize is. All will be revealed when I announce the winner and their prize in a couple of weeks time.

And The Prize Draw Winners Are....

....to be announced very shortly.

But first some updates:

My Back - is recovering nicely. I've been doing some more figure prep this evening. All of the civilians are done and I've started work on the vehicle passengers.

Ebay Orders - all my orders have been dispatched now so hopefully I'll get my grubby mitts on them in the next few days. I did order a couple of Yesteryears Ford A vans, just in case. I'm sure you understand my reasons. Oh, and I ordered one other vehicle which is essential for any city. I'll wait until it arrives before telling you what it is.

Saga Comp - well, tomorrow is the comp so I'll turn up and find out if I am still needed. If I am needed to make up an even number, I'll be fielding my Normans - Bates, Fletcher, Peterson, Schwarzkopf et al. If I'm not needed, I might stick around for a bit to take some photos and have lunch then nip off to do some shopping.

Anyway, that's enough drivel, you want to know who the prize winners are.

These were the 4 figures that three lucky (Are you sure? Ed.) winners get one figure each from:

There were 21 entrants for this prize draw. I entered their names into the randomiser and this was the result:

In first place was Rodger, so he got his first preference which was figure A, The Green Man:

In second place was Justin. His first preference was also figure A. After that, he had no preference so we need to see what the third winner's choice was.

In third place was Zabadak. Luckily his first choice was figure B, so he gets that one.

That leaves figures C and D for Justin to choose between.

Congratulations to all the winners. Can you please email me your addresses, either via my profile or using the Kontactr link below the Posties Rejects logo at the top left of the page. I will get the figures sent out to you as soon as possible.

I Guess It is Long Overdue

Well, the time has come.

I could no longer put it off.

No more delays.

So, without further ado.

*drumroll*

*balloons released*

*another drumroll*

Yes, it's finally time for me to do the prize draw that I promised a long while back when I reached 500 posts, then again when I hit 200,000 page views. And now I'm at 500 followers.

As there are 3 milestones to celebrate, there will be three lucky winners of one of these 28mm gangster figures painted by me.

The Rules

1. You must be a public follower of this blog
2. You must leave a comment indicating which your order of preference for your prize figure should you be one of the winners
3. The draw will close at 2100 GMT on Friday 16 May 2014
4. There will only be one entry per person. No bonuses this time for promotion, poetry, jokes, etc.

Roll up! Roll up!

And take a gander at these two very generous prize draws.

Our favourite lunatic military chaplain, Michael P (aka the Mad Padre), is celebrating reaching 100k page views by having a prize draw with a twist - you are asked to provide captions or dialogue for at least one of three pictures. Each caption/dialogue gains you one entry and a bonus entry if you write something for all 3. You also get a bonus entry for being a public follower of his blog.

Edwin King also has a prize draw to celebrate 50k page views, with some great prizes up for grab to the first three names puled out of the hat. All you have to do is be a follower, and leave a comment on the blog post listing (in order) the three prizes you are interested in.

That's the promotional stuff done - now I'd better get stuck into revision. Exams on Tuesday - cripes!

Challenge Day 30 - Prize Draw Winner

I had to cancel my game this evening as I've gone down heavily with a cold. I've managed to keep myself occupied at home though - I've made up flight pegs from brass tube for the smaller NSL ships and have almost finished the fighters - I just need to spray with matt varnish, glue to the hex bases and paint some final details.

Anyhoos, that's enough of an update. What you all really want is this:

Prize Draw Winner

Well, someone had to win this lovely (are you sure? Ed.) figure, which was my entry for the Villain bonus round.

Somewhat surprisingly, only 17 people had entered this draw. Once I'd added a couple of bonus entries for poems or continuations of the story, this gave 20 entries. Most convenient. I dug out a d20 and made the customary roll.

And the winner is....

*Drum roll

wait for it....

*fanfare of trumpets

hold steady lads and lasses....

*muffled sounds of budgies being smuggled

Michael Awdry!!!!!

Congrats Michael! Drop me an email with you address and "Codename Badger" will be on its way to Awdry Towers.

Challenge Day 23 - 2nd Blogday Prize Draw

And it's time for the Prize Draw!!!!!!

As I couldn't post pics of the prize the lucky winner will receive until after Curt had posted the Villain bonus theme entries this draw has had to be delayed.

However, the villain bonus theme entries are up now, so all can be revealed....

I had great fun painting this figure and writing the text to go with the entry. I know it's already been posted on Curt's blog, but I'll post it here again for anyone who doesn't frequent it (and shame on you for not frequenting Curt's blog during the Challenge!).

ps - Don't forget to vote for your favourite villains. Mine is one of your favourites isn't it?

*********************

CLASSIFICATION:
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY

TO DIRECTOR, GREAT HALL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY (CODENAME "LOKI")

FOLLOWING MY SUCCESSFUL INFILTRATION INTO THE OGRE KINGDOM OF SANDBAGGING I QUICKLY LOCATED THE LAIR OF BADGER. IT IS A CAVE AT GRID COORDINATES 31415/92654, SET INTO A CLIFF.

36 HOURS INTO MY SURVEILLANCE I OBSERVED A SHADY FIGURE EMERGING FROM THE CAVE. A LOW RES NIGHT-VIS IMAGE WAS TRANSMITTED TO HQ FOR CONFIRMATION THAT THIS WAS THE TARGET. HQ CONFIRMED IDENTITY AS BADGER AND I MAINTAINED SURVEILLANCE.

24 HOURS LATER BADGER RETURNED TO THE CAVE AND EMERGED AGAIN AFTER 72 HOURS. WITH THE TARGET BEING CONFIRMED, HIGH RES COLOUR IMAGES WERE ACQUIRED.

BADGER WAS ON BOTH OCCASIONS CARRYING A LARGE, HEAVY SACK. THE HIGH RES IMAGES REVEALED WRITING ON THE SACK "APC 2014 SEND 20/03".

WARGAMING GIRL, SPECIAL MISSION OPERATIVE

INTEL ANALYSIS
*****************

TARGET CONFIRMED AS BADGER. IMAGES SHOW BADGER LEAVING CAVE WITH HEAVY SACKS. ANALYSIS OF MESSAGE ON SACK IN HIGH RES IMAGES SUGGESTS THAT THE SACKS CONTAIN PAINTED MINIATURES FOR SUBMISSION TO THE ANALOGUE PAINTING CHALLENGE 2014 IN THE FINAL FEW HOURS BEFORE THE DEADLINE.

OK, that's enough silliness! This figure is a 28mm Ogre Lord from Dark Art Studios (http://www.dark-art-studios.co.uk/dark-art-studios_shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_6&products_id=54).

I did a little bit of conversion work with Milliput. The spiked hammer head was left off and replaced with what is meant to be the ferrule and bristles of a paint brush. For the right hand I fashioned a full sandbag. I also made up a backdrop for the photos.

Simon's Spetsnaz (Finished)

I finished painting these last night, but had to wait until this evening to give them a coat of matt spray varnish. Doing the camouflage was a bit tricky, mainly because I didn't want to overpower the finished look but still wanted to get the right effect. I think I've got it about right. My only qualm is the mid-tone of the camo - I think it should have been a little darker, but it looks OK.

So, lots of pics for you. I haven't taken shots of all the figures as there are only 5 poses.

Now that they are varnished, I'll be popping them off the painting sticks and packaging them to give to Simon at the club, probably on Thursday night.
