About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

WIP: Old Glory Cuirassiers #4

Well, my bank account has taken a big hit today - I've bought my replacement fridge-freezer and while I was there decided it was time to replace my gas cooker (also 16 year old) as well. I'll be taking another big financial hit this week - my annual travel card is due for renewal.

That's enough about life stuff though. What you want to hear about is painting and to see some pics.

Old Glory Cuirassiers

Done today:

  • Trousers
  • Boots
  • Gauntlets
  • Belts, cartridge pouches and scabbards
  • Faces and hair (on those without closed helms)
  • Hat of standard bearer
  • Flagpole/lance of standard bearer
  • Wooden parts of pistols
  • Saddles (where visible)

It sounds like a lot, but broken up into little bits it didn't seem to take too much time.

Still to do:

  • Metalwork
  • Stirrup straps (just spotted I hadn't done those!)
  • Error correction (need to touch up some of the armour)
  • Klear/ink coat
  • Basing

As I'm not gaming tomorrow night, I'll probably get these finished apart from basing which will get done on Tuesday.

I also did the flesh on the Sarmatian "other cavalry" but didn't take photos. Once the cuirassiers are done, I'll finish these.

Next Up

  • Scythians
  • Battlebots
  • 30YW foot
  • Space Demons

I hate colds!

Gaarrrgghhh! I hate colds, and the fact that I seem to catch them so often. Feeling utterly crap today, despite dosing myself up with Lemsip.

No pics today, as there's not really anything to show that you haven't seen before.

Bit's and bobs done today:

  • Added tufts and clumps to remaining Sarmatian bases
  • Dry-brushed the rest of the battlebots with Red Leather?metallic medium mix
  • Prepped the Old Glory 30YW cuirassiers that Seb gave me a few weeks ago as a birthday present
  • Started making up some hedges - cut up the foam of a scouring pad into strips and glued these to some mixing sticks (currently sitting under a weighted sheet to ensure the foam sticks to the stick)

Pimping Time

In his 100th post today, Ian was complimenting my blog and how fast I've managed to get 3 times as many followers as he has. I think some pimping is in order

His blog "The Blog With No Name" is definitely worth checking out and adding yourself as a follower, if you aren't one already.

Hmmm, does this mean I need to go out and buy loads of bling, fur coats, brashly coloured zoot suits and fedora hats?

WIP: 2nd Batch Sarmatian Armoured Lancers #4; WIP: Alans #4; WIP: Battlebots #2

Don't forget my Prize Draw!

I had another good day today and got plenty of painting done. The Sarmatians are just about finished now - only the basing gunk needs to be added. The Alans are coming along nicely and if I'm lucky will be finished apart from basing gunk on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I also did a test of the paint/metallic medium mix and dry-brushed a couple of the Battlebots. I quite like the colour, but do let me know what you think.

Sarmatian Lancers

Done today:     fletching on arrows in quivers; sword hilts and lance tips; touch-ups; Klear/Ink coat; glued to bases

Still to do:        adding basing gunk

Alan Light Horse

Done today:      trousers; tunics

Still to do:         hair; belts; bows; equipment; fletching; metalwork (bits; tack decorations, sword hilts); plumes and tassels; ground colour on bases; Klear/ink

Battlebots

Done today:     test dry-brush of a few figures with a 1:1 mix of Red Leather 818 and metallic medium

Still to do:        everything!

Does this colour work?

WIP: 2nd Batch Sarmatian Armoured Lancers #3; WIP: Alans #3; WIP: Battlebots #1

Don't forget my Prize Draw!

I managed to get quite a bit of work done today. The Sarmatian lancers should be finished tomorrow (apart from basing), the Alans probably won't be finished tomorrow, but should be finished (apart from basing) on Tuesday. I'm putting the Scythians on hold for now - once I've got the Sarmatian lancers and the Alans based, I need to finish the basing on all of the Sarmatian force I've done so far (dark washing and dry-brushing the basing texture, adding flock, clump foliage, tufts etc) so that they are looking good in time for Campaign.

Sarmatian Lancers

Done today:     flesh touched up; bows painted on the ones where they show; equipment (scabbards, sword belts, bowcases and quivers)

Still to do:        fletching on arrows in quivers; sword hilts and lance tips; touch-ups; Klear/Ink coat

Alan Light Horse

Done today:      horse tack; horse eyes; flesh; boots

Still to do:         trousers; tunics; hair; belts; bows; equipment; fletching; metalwork (bits; tack decorations, sword hilts); plumes and tassels; ground colour on bases; Klear/ink

Battlebots

"You what? Where on Earth did these come from?"

I decided that I needed to get something else prepped and ready to go if I need a break from painting Sarmatians/Alans/Scythians and spotted these hiding away in my "prepped" drawer so cracked on with priming them.

They're from The Scene

Done today:     primed with Vallejo acrylic polyurethane black primer

Still to do:        everything!

I'm still trying to decide what colour to do for the armour/exoskeleton and weapons on these. I'm leaning toward a red/orange/brown metallic look for the body - I can probably achieve that using a mix of Red Leather 818 and Vallejo metallic medium. That colouring will be applied by dry-brushing.
