About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Finished: Rusty Scatter Terrain for Judge Dredd; Lockdown Podcast #26

I didn't get much painted this week for two main reasons:

1. Last Tuesday evening I started to get a painful swelling on the left side of my face, followed by a mild fever. It appears that I have a (suspected, yet to be confirmed) case of mumps. The pain got worse on Wednesday and continued on Thursday and I wasn't able to focus on things, so didn't do any painting. Luckily it seems to be a lot better now, but eating solid food is still rather uncomfortable and difficult (mainly because the swelling is limiting how far my mouth will open).

2. Having got all the painting done on Friday, I decided on Saturday that the skip needed to be filled with rubble. Adding filler in stages and letting it cure took some time and I didn't finishing painting it until this morning.

Lockdown Podcast #26

I should have posted this at the weekend, but forgot.

Among the usual risible content, listen in to find out all about "Assyrian relief", "tea potting" in Early Imperial Rome, our different approaches to basing figures and to endure the French Techno music that heralds Andy's Quiz.

Finished: 15mm Foot Leaders for "Infamy, Infamy!"

I did mean to post these yesterday - you'll find out why I didn't later on.

As you can see, I have finally finished these foot leader figures for my Roman and German forces for "Infamy, Infamy!".

German Leaders and Characters

Roman Scorpion and Crew

Roman Standards and Cornicen

Optiones

Auxiliary Officers

Legionary Officers

When I was resizing the photos yesterday afternoon, there was something niggling away in the back of my mind, but I couldn't put a finger on what was wrong. It was quite late last night that it dawned on me - the Roman shield designs were wrong. I'd painted the legionary officers with the auxiliary foot design and the auxiliary officers with the auxiliary cavalry design.

A quick repaint later and the niggle was kicked into touch:

All these figures were 15mm from Donnington Miniatures.

Lockdown Podcast #25 and Paint Table Saturday 21 November

This week's Madaxeman Lockdown Podcast is now available for download:

Listen to us witter on about the usual garbage; enjoy (are you sure about that? Ed.) Andy's weekly quiz; get bored by our rambling discussion on the "death of big gaming" inspired by The Yarkshire Gamer's recent blog post.

Paint Table Saturday

Having had a bad run of insomnia last week, followed by waking up on Sunday with a wrenched shoulder, progress on the foot leaders for my Infamy forces has been slow. However, I have managed to get the painting finished today.

You'll have to wait until Monday for close-up photos - I should have finished the basing by then.

When they are done, I will probably be painting up some more 28mm Copplestone figures for my Judge Dredd collection.

Madaxeman Lockdown Podcast #24

Episode 24 of the Lockdown Podcast, which is actually episode 50 of the Madaxeman podcast has now been released.

Among the usual drivel, we have included a tribute to club member Clive McLeod who sadly passed away about a week before we recorded the episode.

Finished: Stewards and Mounted Leaders for "Infamy, Infamy!"

I did manage to finish the basing on these figures today, so my prediction of Saturday held true. I've also made a start on the dismounted leader figures (just the flesh base coat and wash so far).

Roman Leaders:

German Leaders:

German Stewards:

All the figures are 15mm from Donnington Miniatures.

The leaders on pill bases will be Status 3; the ones on oval bases will be Status 1 or 2.

Paint Table Saturday 07 November

It took me a little while (OK, about a week) to sit down and finish painting these leader figures, but that is exactly what I did today. Tomorrow I will varnish them and start the basing process - they should be finished on Monday.

As the basing process will have some quite long breaks while things dry, I should start work on the dismounted figures tomorrow. I'll do the flesh on them all, then work separately on the Romans and Germans.
