After months of anticipation and trepidation, the 6th Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge kicked off at 6am GMT this morning. Naturally, I wasn't up at that silly hour and didn't start my campaign until about 11am.
My grand plan was to get a figure painted and submitted today. So, naturally instead of setting to with that I instead decided to paint the grey uniform basecoat on my 6mm Confederate infantry. As you can see from the following pics (taken when I was about two thirds of the way through) there are a few of these...
Of course, then I decided to add the grey ballast to the bases of my Koreans. Previously I've used superglue to fix the ballast but I decided to try Copydex instead this time. It was so much easier and much less hazardous. Once that glue had dried I gave them a coat of 50% PVA to help seal the ballast before painting. Tomorrow I've booked the day off work (I had a day left that I had to take before Christmas) so I'll be getting out the airbrush and priming them.
After taking a bit of a break, I finally got around to painting my figure for submission today. I was trying a new technique to me and it worked very nicely but was a lot of effort - I don't think I'll be doing many more like that. Anyway, I got the figure finished and my first entry has been submitted - I'm just waiting for the Snowlord to adjudicate and post it.
By the way, I haven't mentioned it on the blog before, but I'm going to be helping out Curt with the adjudicating this year - I'll be looking after all the participants who have been assigned Tuesday as their usual submission day.
Great start Tamsin and I'm really looking forward to seeing how your little fellows turn out. Last year your armies were definitely one of the highlights of the challenge :-)
ReplyDeleteQuite a... titanic sort of start...!! Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteNice and organised. More tiny guys. Don't know how you do them
ReplyDeleteThats a whole lot of confederates there
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing what new painting technique you tried
Merry Christmas and good luck with this year's challenge
Go get em, Tamsin!
ReplyDeleteGood of you to help out the Curt. Cheers
ReplyDeleteWhat I admire about you is that you seldom do things by half. A great start.
ReplyDeleteYes as one of your Reprobates you will be looking after me on Tuesday as I am one of your "Angry Children!" More worrying Ray is too! What have you let yourself in for?
The massed ranks of Miss Piper on show again - it must be winter. All hail my Tuesday posting Overlord! ;)
ReplyDeleteVery kind of you to help our snowy overlord. But where's your first points bomb?!
ReplyDeleteGreat start indeed.. looking forward to seeing this all done up!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteLooking good Tamsin!! Very much looking forward to yet more wonderful painting and army building from you this year. See you in the Challenge!
ReplyDeleteMass production at its finest - I love it (and the 'ballast' basing looks great too)
ReplyDelete@ Blax - thanks! Glad you like my humungous armies from previous years. The Challenge certainly helps with focusing me on completing armies (or large contingents for them).
ReplyDelete@ RMacedo - Titanic? Oh dear - better watch out for icebergs! ;)
@ Martin C - well, sort of organised :)
@ Miles - and that's just the regular infantry! There are Zouaves, cavalry (mounted and dismounted), artillery and commanders to do after these! :)
@ Michael P - will do, Padre :)
@ Brendon - he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. He's not just a *snow* lord
@ Clint - well, there's no point in going off half-cocked; needs to be at least three-quarters cocked! ;)
As for what I've let myself in for, I'm sure I'll soon come to regret it with all of you Rejects...
@ Michael A - indeed, indeed m'Lord! :)
@ Phyllion - first points bomb? That will probably be the 6mm Rebs in a few weeks time :)
@ M R Lee - you'll have to wait a few weeks to see these painted and submitted :)
@ Simon Q - cheers! :)
@ Sidney - thanks! Looking forward to more of your stunning work :)
@ Zabadak - cheers! The ballast actually works quite well for a stony ground look :)
