About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Midweek Update (no pics today folks!)

Just posting a quick update for you all.

Milton Keynes Campaign 2013

The Runners and Riders for the 15mm FoG:AM tournament have just been posted. On the website, it appears that myself and a team-mate have switched places and he is taking my Koreans and I'm taking his Byzantines. They've got it right on the Slitherine forum though, so it is probably a transcription error.

Funnily enough, somehow all 3 teams from Central London have ended up in the same pool for Saturday's games. I call shenanigans!

From the armies listed, it looks as though there will be lots of "civil war" games taking place.

Article for Miniature Wargames

This got sent to Henry today and he seems delighted with it. I'm now dreading the next issue being delivered.

Koreans

The commanders are almost done now - just need to dry-brush the basing gunk, spray them with matt varnish and flock the bases. I may add a couple of tufts as well.for these bases.

For the infantry there are just a few more painting steps to do. I should finish painting them tomorrow evening. I'm hoping that I'll have time to add the gravel and finish the basing as well.

Koreans - Singi Guard Cavalry

OK, they're finished. So that's all the cavalry done (until later this year when I do bow cavalry so that I can use them for FoG:R).

Lots of pretty piccies:

Kwang Gun Infantry and Commanders

I haven't got any further with these. I did take the infantry into work, but decided to work on the article for Miniature Wargames instead. I'll take the command stands in tomorrow as I might just be able to finish those over my lunch break.

I'll be doing some work on the infantry after posting this.

Seb's 2nd Blogday Prize Draws

My club-mate Seb over at Back To the Minis is celebrating his blog's second birthday with a series of Prize Draws.

Today's draw is for a NAC starter fleet from GZG, which I'd really, really like to win. As I commented "Oooh! Oooh! Shinies! Spaceships! Oooh, oooh, shiny spaceships!!!!"

So, pop on over if you fancy winning this prize and take a look back at the previous 2 prizes (the winners will be declared 1 week after each draw is posted).

Koreans - Progress

My word! I've made excellent progress today.

Here is a pic of everything in progress:

Singi Guard Cavalry

I decided that I would, after all, do the texturing on their bases. I should be able to get the base colour and wash done this evening. Tomorrow morning I'll dry-brush the texture then in the evening I can matt spray and flock them.

Commanders

I'm very nearly finished painting these. I've just got a little bit of detailing to do then the white of the clothing. Then it's wash the figures and base texture, Klear coat the figures, dry-brush the basing, matt spray and flocking.

I'll probably finish the painting tonight.

Kwang Gun Infantry

These have painted up much quicker than I thought they would. If I'm lucky, I may even be finished with painting them tomorrow night. That might even give me time to get their basing done.

Pic of Commanders and Kwang Gun infantry:

My cunning plan is to take the Kwang Gun infantry into work with me to do some work during my lunch breaks over the next day or two.

Sunday Update

Well, it's Sunday so it's update time.

Korean Singi Guard Cavalry

I've managed to finish painting them at last. They've taken a bit longer than I'd hoped but they're nearly done now. I just need to check them for any touch-ups that need fixing then give them a coat of Klear/ink. Tomorrow I'll stick them on their bases. I'll leave adding the basing texture until later in the week when I will know if I actually have time to do that.

Korean Commanders

I've been working on the four command stands for the past 2 days, doing little bits as a break from the cavalry. I'll continue doing that while I'm painting up the foot.

"Pieces of Eight! Pieces of Eight"

I've had 2 more deliveries of Piratical Plunder this weekend and had an email to let me know that my order from Rebel Minis has shipped. All the packs are of 8 figures, hence the sub-title I've used.

Some Marlburians from Essex Miniatures:

A goodly (badly?) crew of pirates from Peter Pig:

Markus - you'll be delighted to know that one of the poses in the "Pirate Characters" pack has not only a peg leg but also a parrot on his shoulder.

Miniature Wargames with Battlegames

Imagine my shock yesterday when I got a Facebook message from Henry Hyde asking me to email him about an article. Our exchange went something like this:

HH - Hi Tamsin, can I ask a huuuuge favour from you?  Could you dig out photos of you Swiss pikemen and do a write up of how you painted them?

HH - ....oh and I will need it by Friday at latest to go in the next issue.

Me - errmmm, maybe, but I'm in panic mode painting right now to get an army finished that I'll be using in a tournament next weekend so might not have the time....

HH - that's greeeaat Tamsin, you're such a star for agreeing to this. I'll look forward to getting your photos and musings.

TP - errmmmm, OK....

Well, how could I refuse an opportunity like this? So, on top of everything else I've got to do this week I will also be going through the pics I took of my Swiss pikemen, selecting ones to illustrate different stages of the process and doing a write-up. If you're at Campaign in Milton Keynes next weekend, pop over and say hello (even better - bring coffee) to the frazzled looking redhead in the FoG:AM tournament area!

Koreans: Kwang Gun or Singi Gun Cavalry

OK, they're finally finished. When I left them last night there were just two steps to go - spray with matt varnish and flocking the bases.

So, lots of pretty pics:

All of them together:

The Blue Regiment

The Green Regiment

The Red Regiment

Still To Do:

36 Singi Guard Cavalry - these are coming along nicely. With a bit of luck I'll be able to get the painting finished tomorrow and the basing done on Sunday.

48 Kwang Gun Foot - I'll start these on Sunday and hopefully will finish painting  them on Monday, with the basing to be done on Tuesday

4 Command Stands (4 mounted, 12 foot) - I'll be starting these tonight and doing bits and bobs to them as breaks from painting the cavalry and foot.

I've only got a week left to get these finished, which does mean that I won't get a practice game in with them before Campaign. Nothing like turning up to a tournament with an army you haven't used before. Fortunately the cavalry are lancers which I do have experience with, but I've not used medium foot before (in FoG:AM - I've used them in FoG:R) so I'll need to learn how to use them properly in the first couple of games.

Korean Cavalry On the Workbench

The first batch of cavalry are sooo, sooo, sooo close to being finished that I'm really annoyed with myself for dozing off on the sofa earlier this evening. If I hadn't gone to sleep I might just have finished them tonight.

I started the next batch last night. these are the Singi Guard cavalry and I've decided to be a bit more uniform with these. It will just be the officers and saddle cloths that differ between the units (OK, maybe the mix of horse colours will differ as well).

I've also prepped the figures for the command stands and will be gluing them onto their bases for painting later this evening.

Anyway, as it is a couple of days since my last post, here are some pics to stop you all moaning.

All the cavalry:

The Kwang Gun/Singi Gun Cavalry

Before I forget - I've also finished the Korean camp Secret Project. However, you'll have to wait until I return from Campaign for pics of it as I don't want to spoil the surprise.
