...Thanks guys, and a big Spartan welcome to Scott!

@ Monty - I have done basing material first before and it can work out well (my Ronin is evidence of that). the problem here was that I did a PVA coat then into the sand/gravel mix (with too much gravel in it).
It will certainly be interesting to see how our two batches of GB Vikings compare :)

@ Legatus - it's definitely easier to do sand/gravel first as the primer makes it easier to paint up later on. the main problem is that the sand and gravel seem to soak up huge amounts of primer.TamsinPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11759947520907448060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6908829430234339181.post-45230735383622886782012-12-31T13:22:31.615+00:002012-12-31T13:22:31.615+00:00Hah, just looked at this as I was putting sand on ...Hah, just looked at this as I was putting sand on the bases of my unpainted figures. I always do this so that the undercoat goes over everything. I find painting bare gravel with a brush very tricky and less satisfactory.

Looking forward to your Vikings too!legatus hedliushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17078980742683576345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6908829430234339181.post-2284635674196694902012-12-31T09:59:24.055+00:002012-12-31T09:59:24.055+00:00 Must admit I am rather fond of the GB Figures.
