Paint Table Saturday 31 October

I decided to take a couple of days away from painting figures this week, but have hit the brushes again today:

Back to front: Germans, Romans, Pack horses

I decided to start with the mounted leader figures and the pack horses for my "Infamy, Infamy!" forces. The pack horses and the chap on foot will form a "stewards" base for the Germans.

Finished: It's A(n Urban) Jungle Out There - More Citi Def for Judge Dredd

Add caption

These took me a lot longer to get painted than I'd intended. That's largely because I didn't have "the feels" for them for some reason and allowed myself to get distracted by reading various things. However, a little bit here, a little bit there and they were done.

These figures are from the Copplestone "Near Future" range. Given their look, I think they must be from the Arnold Schwarzenegger block.

The chaps

The chapesses

Today I also got the individual Roman and ancient German figures primed:

I'll start painting them tomorrow.

Lockdown Podcast #22 and Some Shinies

Well, it looks as though we are back in the swing of things and the Madaxeman Lockdown Podcast #22 has been released:

Find out the answers to Andy's "Impressive Privates" quiz (and see if you got them right).
Discover where to buy really, really good small, sharp scissors for cutting out shield transfers.
Listen to seven nutters rambling on about figure painting and gaming for 90 minutes.
Wonder why on earth you are listening to seven nutters rambling on about figure painting and gaming for 90 minutes

Shinies

It's been quite a while since I did a "shinies" post, so I thought it was about time. Especially as I have just taken delivery of an order from Warlord Games.

I decided to buy some Polish airborne to add to my collection. I could just have used all helmeted figures from my existing force, but thought it would be nice to have a few in their distinctive berets. I also allowed me to push my order value high enough to get the freebie figure of the para shoulder-carrying a wounded comrade.

I might also be ordering the British Airborne Command Post set from Artizan at some point.

Wednesday Workbench 21 October

I have slowed things down a little over the past few days, but have still got things done.

First of all, I have prepped a bunch of individual figures from Donnington to add as leaders and "extras" to my "Infamy, Infamy!" forces:

As well as the "leaders" I also have a Scorpion and crew for the Romans and a civilian and two pack horses to make up a "stewards" base for the Germans (stewards act as a rallying point for the cavalry and as a resupply point for javelin armed troops).

I've also started painting some Copplestone "Near Future" figures - these will be another Citi Def group for Mega City One:

At the moment I am just putting down the base/shade colours; I will do the highlighting once that is done.

Finished: 15mm Early Imperial Romans

A mere couple of weeks of painting has seen me finish this force of Early Imperial Romans. This will provide me with (almost) all the groups I will need to play "Infamy, Infamy!" and also act as the start of an army for Art de la Guerre.

The individual figures I ordered from Donnington arrived earlier this week. I will get them prepped and primed over the next couple of days; they will be my leader/character figures for "Infamy, Infamy!" and I will be painting them to a slightly higher standard than the basic groups I've already done.

Command stands for ADLG:

Legionary Infantry (for Infamy and ADLG):

Auxiliary Infantry (for Infamy and ADLG):

Auxiliary Archers (for Infamy and ADLG):

Didn't spot the grass on that bow until just now...

Roman/Auxiliary Cavalry (for Infamy and ADLG):

Didn't spot the bent spear until just now...

I need to add a few more bases for "Infamy!" at some point.

Engineers (for one "Infamy" scenario):

All the figures are 15mm from Lancashire Games apart from the engineers who are from Baueda (via Magister Militum). the shield designs were hand-painted - a bit rough looking up close, but fine en masse at normal wargaming distances.

The Lockdown Podcast Returns!

As London counts down the hours, minutes and seconds until we enter Tier 2 lockdown measures (and therefore no in-person gaming at the pub), and by popular request*, the Madaxeman Lockdown Podcast returns to the airwaves.

Yes, we are resuming the weekly recordings after a well-deserved break.

* well, Timmy tells us that two people had asked him on Facebook if we'd  be starting them up again.

Thursday Workbench 15 October

As it turns out, I'm a complete idiot. Somehow I failed to notice that yesterday was Wednesday so I missed doing my usual "Wednesday Workbench" post, so you're getting one today.

I finished painting the last of the Romans yesterday and varnished them this morning. Once the varnish had dried I popped the figures off the painting sticks and sorted the figures into groups for basing.

Legionaries & engineers

Auxiliary infantry

Cavalry, auxiliary archers and command stand figures

This afternoon I spent about an hour gluing the figures onto bases:

Tomorrow I will start basing them; they should get finished on Saturday.

Paint Table Saturday 10 October

I've fallen a little behind schedule. I was out for a few hours on Thursday, getting thoroughly soaked by rain so when I got home I wasn't in the mood for painting. I've made up for it since, finishing the auxiliary infantry yesterday and getting all the foot (so far) varnished and popped off their painting sticks today. I've also made a good start on the cavalry today, with the horses almost done. I should get them finished tomorrow:

Unless something bad happens, I am confident that next weekend I will have the Romans finished.

Wednesday Workbench 07 October

I've been making good progress with the Romans. Since my last post I have painted the first batch of auxiliary infantry and done a wash step on them and the legionaries. I've also made a very good start on the second batch of auxiliary infantry; they should be finished tomorrow.

On Friday I will hit them all with an airbrush coat of matt varnish before starting work on the cavalry. That will just leave the command stand figures and some auxiliary archers to do next week before basing them all.

I placed an order with Donnington yesterday for some individual figures to use as leaders and specialists for "Infamy, Infamy!" - once the Roman army is based, I will commence work on them.

Paint Table Sunday 04 October

I have started work on the 15mm Imperial Romans. On Thursday I managed to get all of the figures primed:

I started painting the first batch yesterday, and finished them today:

The shield designs were hand-painted:

That gives me enough legionaries for "Infamy, Infamy!" but I will need the same again to make an army for Art de la Guerre.

This week I will be working on the auxiliaries and engineers below, in two batches:
